The Must-Sees of Collioure

Collioure is a small village located in the Pyrénées-Orientales, about thirty minutes from Perpignan and not far from the Spanish border. The town is known for its peaceful atmosphere, colorful streets, and its history linked to artists such as Matisse and Derain. It is a fishing village deeply attached to its traditions, local festivals, wines, and of course its anchovies. Between hills, sea, and Catalan culture, Collioure has a truly authentic charm that captivates visitors from the very first steps.

Here are seven places and experiences to discover during your first visit.

The Royal Castle:

Located opposite the harbor, it reminds us that Collioure was once a fortified town. The visit of the Royal Castle is easy and enjoyable. Moreover, the view over the bay is definitely worth it.

The Morais streets:

Collioure is best discovered on foot. Its narrow streets, colorful shutters, and façades create a unique atmosphere. You will find art galleries, excellent restaurants, and local shops.

Fort Saint-Elme:

Overlooking the village, Fort Saint-Elme offers a magnificent view of the sea and the mountains. It is possible to walk up there in about thirty minutes.

The beaches:

Collioure has four beaches, offering something for everyone, whether you prefer sandy beaches or pebble ones.

Local flavors:

Collioure boasts a rich gastronomy, especially its anchovies, which are a must-try. You can find them in restaurants or directly from local producers. Banyuls and Roussillon wines pair perfectly with local dishes. Finally, Collioure’s artisanal almond biscuits are delicious—you will even find them on our breakfast buffet.

The seaside walk:

Between the harbor, beaches, and art galleries, a stroll along the seafront is particularly pleasant, especially at sunset. You will enjoy Collioure at a gentle pace.

The Church of Notre-Dame-des-Anges:

This building is the symbol of Collioure. It is located in the heart of the town, between the Saint-Vincent chapel and Boramar beach. It is both unusual and iconic. The church is partially immersed in water, as when inside, you are below sea level. It was built on a rock where the former lighthouse once stood, which explains its distinctive architecture.
