The history of Hotel Casa Païral

Casa Païral stands as a timeless escape, a rare sanctuary where every moment seems to stand still to make room for serenity. Before becoming the hotel you see today, our house was first a place of life, steeped in history and deeply rooted in the heart of Collioure. Every stone and every corner of this residence tells a story: that of a local family and that of a Mediterranean village that has preserved its soul through the ages.

The birth of a bourgeois residence around 1870

The main house was built around 1870, a time when Collioure was structuring itself around its grand bourgeois homes. It belonged to the Espériquette family, a respected lineage in the village. The house was designed as a prestigious residence, reflecting the status of its owners while respecting the traditional architecture of the region.

The deep meaning of Casa Païral: The Father's House

The very name of our establishment is a direct tribute to its Catalan origins. In Catalan, Casa Païral means The Father's House. This term goes beyond the simple designation of a building: it evokes the role of a family home passed down from generation to generation, an anchor for an entire lineage.

The hundred-year-old Magnolia, a symbol of life

In the center of the garden stands our most precious treasure: a majestic magnolia tree, now about 140 years old. It was planted in 1885 to celebrate the birth of Eva, the daughter of the owner at the time. Since that day, this tree has never left the house and has become the true symbol of Casa Païral.

A heritage linked to anchovies and maritime traditions

Before opening its doors to travelers, part of the building housed a former space for salting and drying anchovies. Collioure has always been famous for its expertise with this small blue fish. Casa Païral thus contributed to the life of the port through this discreet industrial role before becoming a place of rest.

From guesthouse to charming hotel

In the early 20th century, the house evolved into a guesthouse. A lovely anecdote: Eva, for whom the magnolia was planted, was born in what is now room number 3. This room, decorated with care and charm, remains a living element of the house's history.

The Lormand family vision: Preserving the original spirit

In 1975, Guy Lormand became the owner, followed by his daughter Alix in 1976. Their goal has always been clear: to preserve the original spirit of Casa Païral and offer guests that unique feeling of warmth and authenticity that only a family home can provide.

A decor that invites relaxation and discovery

Through the choice of decoration and attention to detail, history and the present live together in harmony. Casa Païral is not just a place to sleep; it is a space where you take the time to live and reconnect with the beauty of Collioure.
