Casa Païral welcomes you to the heart of Collioure, the ideal starting point to discover the historical sites and traditions surrounding our hotel. Among the essential experiences of your stay, the Collioure market holds a privileged place. A true local institution, it is a meeting point for foodies and craft lovers, offering an authentic immersion into the Mediterranean "douceur de vivre."
To organize your visit, it is essential to know our town's weekly appointments. The traditional market of Collioure is held year-round, twice a week: Wednesday morning and Sunday morning. Exhibitors set up at dawn on Place du Maréchal Leclerc, a few steps from the town hall and the harbor, and the stalls remain open from approximately 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Sunday is often the liveliest day, attracting residents from neighboring villages and travelers alike. It is the perfect time to feel the Catalan excitement. On Wednesdays, the atmosphere is a bit calmer, allowing for longer chats with local producers. During the summer season, night markets and craft markets are sometimes added to this schedule, but the two weekly mornings remain the village's beating heart.
The Collioure market is above all a feast for the senses. Strolling between the stalls, you will discover an incredible variety of fresh products from the Pyrénées-Orientales department. Fruit and vegetable lovers will be delighted by Roussillon red apricots, juicy peaches, sun-drenched tomatoes, or local artichokes, depending on the season.
The star product is, of course, the Collioure Anchovy. Several merchants offer the famous fillets from the Roque or Desclaux houses, prepared according to ancestral know-how. You will also find sheep and goat cheeses from the nearby mountains, as well as typical charcuterie such as soubressade or fuet. Don't forget to try sweet specialties, like almond croquants or bunyetes, those thin, crispy fritters traditionally prepared for Easter.
Part of the market's charm is the personality of the exhibitors. You will meet winemakers proud to present their Collioure and Banyuls appellation wines, perfect for your appetizers. Beekeepers will let you taste garrigue or rosemary honey with intense flavors.
Beyond gastronomy, the market gives pride of place to local craftsmanship. You will find jewelry designers, potters, and sellers of household linen with traditional Catalan stripes (Toiles du Soleil). Handmade espadrilles and olive wood objects are also very present. This is the ideal opportunity to bring back an authentic souvenir of your stay, far from industrial products.
To fully enjoy the market, we recommend arriving early, especially on Sundays, to avoid the crowds and choose the best products. After your market tour, a break on a terrace by the harbor is a tradition that never gets old.
Parking in Collioure can be complex on market days. For your comfort, please note that Casa Païral has its own private paid parking lot. You can leave your vehicle safely at the hotel and reach the market square in less than two minutes on foot. This proximity allows you to easily bring your fresh purchases back to your room or keep them cool before continuing your day of discovery.
